Character: Erk ("Erky" to Serra)
Series/Fandom: Fire Emblem: The Blazing Sword
Original or Alternate: Original
Age: Fifteen
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Erk is of fairly average height and build, but gives the impression of being small for his age. His hair and eyes are the same deep violet color, which is fairly unusual even on Elibe, and his skin is rather pale. He tends to dress in a blue tunic and a red cloak, which, since Erk is a mage, has several less-than-obvious pockets.
Personality: Erk tends to have two modes of operation: he is either quiet and reserved or bitterly sarcastic, depending on how badly annoyed he is at the moment. The two states are not always mutually exclusive. He's bookish, taking naturally to the study that is required of a mage. He is also very focused and will often ignore his own problems until they become urgent, although he does this less nowadays.
Abilities: Erk is naturally talented in the use of anima magic, which relates to the elements, as well as being fairly resistant to magic. He is driven in his goals and will pursue them regardless of cost to himself.
Weapons: Erk generally has at least one tome from which to cast magic about his person. He will also occasionally use a magical stave of one variety or another (usually some sort of healing stave).
Weaknesses: A limitation of the anima magic Erk practices is that it fares poorly against "dark" or "elder" magic. In addition, Erk suffers from the physical frailty common to many magic users. This is compounded by his still-lingering tendency to neglect his own well-being when deeply engaged in a task.
History: Even as a young boy, Erk showed signs of becoming an exceptionally talented user of magic, and was apprenticed to Lord Pent, the Mage-General of Etruria, Erk's home country. Early on in his training, he once spent days studying without stopping to eat or sleep, determined to prove himself worthy of being taught by the great Mage-General. Inevitably, he collapsed. Pent and his wife, Louise, took a much more personal interest in Erk after that, and began to look on Erk as their own son.
When he was much older, Erk was hired to escort a "frail Lycian priestess" to Ostia. There must have been a mix-up somewhere, because he ended up taking Serra instead. She was a priestess alright, and presumably Lycian, but, in Erk's own words, "Even the most hardened criminal would flee in terror after five minutes in [her] company." She was loud, bossy, and as self-centered as a spinning top, which got the pair into more than one scrape, not the least of which was an occasion just outside the border of Lycia in which Serra's comments led to a rather dangerous misunderstanding. A group of bandits came to the conclusion that Erk and Serra were a part of a mercenary band they were fighting, led by a noblewoman by the name of Lyndis. The two had no choice but to join in the fight on the side of Lyndis's Legion, and when the battle was won, Serra hit upon the brilliant plan of following Lyn in her quest to attain the leadership of Caelin, a position which was hers by birthright. Later, mission accomplished, Erk was finally able to deliver Serra to her destination, much to his relief.
Unfortunately, he hadn't learned his lesson. Erk was next hired to escort a young maiden by the name of Priscilla, who turned out to be rather quieter and more intelligent than Serra - much like Erk himself, in fact. The two were detained in the province of Laus, where the marquess's son decided that Priscilla would make an excellent wife. Priscilla herself had other ideas, and was able to take shelter in a small village. Erk was out searching for help when he was found by the last person he ever wanted to see. Serra dragooned him, along with his new employer, into aiding the army of Lord Eliwood of Pherae in the young lord's search for his father.
Eliwood's Elite, as it turned out, contained several members of the former Lyndis's Legion. It acquired several more when they liberated Caelin from invaders, including Lady Lyndis herself. Eliwood's search eventually transformed into a quest to save the world from the plans of the evil Nergal and his puppet organization, the Black Fang. This culminated in Erk, Priscilla, and the rest aiding in the slaying of a dragon that Nergal had summoned. Somewhere along the way, Erk began to develop feelings for Priscilla - which he wasn't entirely sure were mutual. He was just beginning, some months after his adventure with Eliwood's Elite, to work up the courage to speak to Priscilla about this when he was whisked away to Econtra.
